Touchable Holograms

Japanese scientists achieved quite an impressive feature: They created the world’s first touchable hologram. The Machine uses cameras (cannibalized from Nintendo wii-remotes) to determine the position of the user’s hand, and then creates a sensation of touch with the use of directed ultrasound. Very cool.

I want one.

  1. For all that it’s a great achievement in the field of engineering, everybody(yes, even the scientists) know that the only real, commercial use for such technology is in holodeck construction, and not the tame, Star Trek ones, either.

I predict that by May 15, 2031, 2:52pm, prostitution and movie/picture porn will be replaced by this invention.

  2. Whoever you talk to about this invention, the first thing they say is ALWAYS about Porn. I wonder if there’s a lesson about human nature to be learned from that fact ;)

  3. Porn taps into one of the most basic—in fact, I would say the basic—drive of the human species. Anybody that understands this is bound to make billions. The short-scale billion, not one of those weird long-scale billions.
